Foundation to Expose the Deceit of Union Propaganda.
A place where the RN's of Tri City Medical Center can get information and talk about the issues surrounding unionization by the CNA.
I'm sort of curious as to whether or not you let anyone who has opposing viewpoints say anything. I just haven't noticed any other views, but I have seen some mistakes on your site. For instance, I noticed "fed up" said RNs would lose 2.2% in dues. I used to work at a CNA hospital in NorCal, and dues were not a percentage, they were a flat rate based on your pay per hour, which wasn't bad...especially because I wrote off dues on my taxes. In fact, I just looked up the dues info: 1.1 x your base rate of pay per pay pay period...hmm, not so bad. I'm sort of confused too. If everyone wanted higher wages, why didn't they get more involved in the negotiations of the contract rather than spread around a petition to stop it? Having worked at a CNA hospital in the past, I know that nurses would come out to events and get involved in the process. We all ended up being pretty satisfied with our contracts, and it was all democratic. I am thinking about workig at TCMC, and a friend of mine told me about what's going on with CNA and to check out this site...I'm going to hold off applying until after this election is over because if there's no CNA contract, it's not worth coming.
I've been a nurse at Tri City for some time now & I'm taken aback by the negativity of the information that you've been distributing. If the dues are half of what you said they were, what else that you've posted is inaccurate? By reading your page it's clear you're anti union, but what do you support? It seems a lot of trouble to tear down something positive other nurses have sacrificed to build.
First and foremost, we believe that EVERYONE should have a voice and be able to decide their own futures. That's why we insisted on the upcoming fair and democratic election regarding the CNA staying at Tri-City,to be held on March 8. As far as misinformation, we regret any confusion caused by publishing any innacurate figure, but we still have not had the opportunity to read over the official contract, amazingly not available before, at or after the contract vote. The CNA has proved and continues to be a very confusing, deceitful organization.
I just can't understand why you are fed up with guaranteed 6% raises for the next three years. In today's North County Times an article commenting about TCMC's projected earnings during flu season are down. The word on the block is that last Thurs. our CFO and others were fired due to our institutions financial instability. Our next 6% increase is due in Sept.-just 7mo.'s away and you want to vote that away! What guarantee can you give me and others that our next so called merit raise and market increase will not be put on hold with our institution's financial instability looming in the near future? What guarantee can you give the rest of us who are forced to flex and denied OT with our current fiscal crisis. NONE-and you want to complain about DUES!!! This will be the least of our troubles when our increases will be put on hold-WITHOUT A CNA CONTRACT!!
It's funny. The negative views I see here seem to be written by the same people who write the creatively worded union propaganda... Who said anyone was fed up about 6% raises? We're fed up that without the unions "help" we earned more than 6%. That's right earned! I work hard therefore I am rewarded for it. I am not entitled to it just because I showed up like everyone else. Without the union I have an opportunity to be rewarded based on my efforts. And if I have a manager that doesn't give me what I think I'm worth, I have an opportunity to go back over the paperwork and show him/her where I think I deserved more credit. With the union I cannot do that. I get the same as the laziest least respected nurse in the hospital. That's not right! The only people who seem to benefit greatly from the 6% are those lazy nurses who will be rewared for just showing up. So for the nurse who will only come to TCMC with a union, maybe you're not what TCMC needs. TCMC was strong well before the union showed up at our door.
Perhaps TCMC would not be the best place for you then. We are a united group, who does not need a union to tell us what to do. Does everyone know what the board of the cna makes??? Does everyone know that the president's husband is a "consultant" making over $100,000.00 per year? Does that strike anyone as strange? Together they are making well over $300,000.00 per year. I am so glad all of our dues are helping them have a grand lifestyle. All CNA cares about is having a signed contract, and collecting the dues. They do not care what the contract says. They have not started taking our dues out yet, because they don't want people to see money out of their check before the decertification vote. Why do you want to donate money to this organization????? It is a scam.
Peppermint Pattie and other union supporters seem to think that the CNA can somehow keep TCMC open no matter what the financial situation, and is willing to compound the problem years in advance, if necessary. If we ARE having a bad year, it would be much better to pitch in and each take a little less raise and overtime than to demand so much that the place closes down altogether. North County residents need TCMC. CNA supporters are acting greedy, selfish and jeuvenile. Like a family, we need to pull together, not demand the max for ourselves and care not for anyone else. It makes me sick to see so much talk about money.
We have been treated very fairly as nurses of TCMC for the last 7 years AND MORE! There was never a reason to believe that we would be unsafe without a "contract" then, and there is STILL no reason we need a "contract" now. If TCMC had a history of being unfair, we may feel differently. It's too bad this issue has pitted nurse against nurse at TCMC. We are all fed up and need to stop all of this NOW.
The best way to accomplish this is to vote the union out at the upcoming decertification election. The election has been moved to Feb 28 in an education classroom to be announced. Three times have been set:
6 a.m. until 10 a.m. 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Ballots will be counted immediately upon poll closure at 9 pm. In stark contrast to CNA poll proceedings, two members from each side will be present to prevent coercion, as well as a neutral third party to oversee all the proceedings to enforce a democratic process.
Please simply VOTE NO. Lets get back to the business of making patients better, side by side.
If you acknowledge the inaccuracy of your comments and fliers regarding dues why don't you remove that information from the boards? Is it that you want to be deceptive or is it that you don't control putting the material up? Mary Rose and Ingrid were actually witnessed putting up your first flyer. Your second flyer says that CNA got rid of recognition for certs - a gross fabrication. CNA proposed cert pay and succeeded in getting more tuition reimbursement. What's more your example is totally false. A new hire with 11 years SNF experience would not get the same credit as a nurse with 10 years in Acute Care. You can keep alluding to intentional or unintentional deception, but the union meetings are open and all your questions will be answered. Also the union has been holding lunch forums on the day and night shift to clear up misunderstandings (intentional or not) about the contract. We'd love to see you.
FYI, If you subtract your yearly dues from your 6% raise you'll find out that your real raise is 4.1%, not 6%. Don't forget no more merit raise. So, what have you really gained but negativity and deceit!
Remember, the CNA contract, as was agreed to between both parties, is published in its entirety on the TCMC intranet. The facts of the contract are posted clearly for all to see.
Actually, fedup that's another falsehood. The contract, as drafted by Davis Wright Tremaine and containing many substantive errors, is posted on the intranet.
On the one hand, it is understandable that the only defense the CNA bargaining team has of such a bland, useless contract is to keep repeating it has "errors", without getting the "errors" corrected. It must be embarrassing to have hurriedly pushed such a lousy contract through, only to find that the decert petition had already been filed.
On the other hand, if there are truly errors, why is the CNA not powerful enough to get them corrected? Any union worth having around should be able to do more than simply stamp their feet outside administration's door whining about "errors".
If the union contract is able to be viewed on the intranet in it's entirety, then why wasn't it available at the election? It's only 29 pages! Who is Tremaine? p.s. Stay out of our patient care areas!

We stand corrected on the 2.2% claim, it is more like half that, about $1000 per year. Thank you for pointing that out.
Many issues regarding the CNA contract are very confusing, intentionally or not, making it nearly impossible for people to navigate on their own.
